Insurance and Inventorying
With all of the damage being caused by hurricane Katrina, I've been thinking about insurance and what it means to know you're covered. If you ever experience a disaster or robbery that results in loss of your posessions or your home itself, it will give you great peace of mind to know that you won't be ruined financially on top of it all.
While thinking about it, I came across a post from Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity on how save yourself even more grief by creating a simple photo inventory for homeowner's or renter's insurance.
A photo inventory is proof for the insurance company that you own what you say you do. It's a good idea to make one and update it occasionally, especially after making an expensive purchase. Check out Jim's post for some good tips -- pay attention to the comments afterward, too, as it's very important to keep a copy of these outside of your home. Using a photo service like Flickr is a great way to handle that without having to rent a safety deposit box.
