What "Hello, Dollar" is Not About

After giving you a picture of Hello, Dollar's motivations and goals, I thought it might be useful to clarify what this site is not about, so that you'll have a better idea of what to expect.

We Won't be Covering...

Get Rich Quick: I will not be teaching you how to get rich quick. Why? Because there is absolutely no reliable way to do this. Anybody that promises otherwise is trying to sell you something. On the other hand, there is a different, reliable, way to get rich: slowly. That's what we'll be talking about here.

Stock Picks: When we talk about investing, I will not push individual stocks. When you buy a stock because someone else recommended it, you bought it for the wrong reason. No one, even somebody you trust, cares as much about your money as you do, so when you make an investment that has the risk of losing it (like a stock), you should know why.

"Trust Me": I will not give you advice and expect you to act on it just because I said so. I will not ask you to just "trust me". Why should you? You don't know me (or most anyone else on the Internet, for that matter). I'm not a professional financial advisor -- I'm just a guy who's learned some stuff about money that's working for me. I could be wrong, or something I say might apply differently to you (If you find this to be the case, tell me! I like to correct myself when I can). Again, you are the one with your best interest in mind. It's your money at stake here. So check out what I say. Make sure I'm not full of baloney, and call me out if I am.

Money-Making Schemes: Even if they don't promise to make you rich, things like envelope stuffing or "multi-level marketing" (A.K.A. pyradmid schemes) aren't financially worth the effort they demand. In fact, I'd be surprised if you ever saw one dollar from these. And besides, we're working hard enough already. I'd rather talk about how we can turn what we're already earning into financial security.

I hope this gives you a better view of what "Hello, Dollar" is (and is not) about. I get some very fishy feelings visiting some of the personal finance websites out there, and I have a highly sensitive B.S. detector, so I want to do my best to avoid generating those feelings myself. I think the best way I can do that is to be up-front about about my advice and not make any unrealistic promises.

I can promise that with education, discipline, and patience (and at least some income), you can become wealthy. Maybe not a billionaire with a mansion and private jet, but maybe enough to take care of yourself and your family, and retire in comfort.

Hi Frank,
I've just visited for the first time and wanted to say I really like what you have to say and your philosphy. I will try to visit your site often to learn more. Thanks!
